“I rose at 5 am had a quick breakfast and drove the 55Km from Trinity Beach to Port Douglas to meet Perrin for approx 2 hours of photography tours in the “golden hour” – just before Sunrise till about an hour afterwards. Perrin drove to a suitable beach, had checked the tidal information, the tide would be out, fantastic! We set up the tripods and waited for the dawn to colour the sky, bracketing the shots, getting down low to get some reflections from the shallows and to pick up the texture in the sand. Then, on the same beach, we walked about 200m across to a stand of Mangroves, the sun had risen enough to just kiss them with a warm light, more shots. Then into his car again and off to another beach where a shoreline of palms arced around a bay to a point. Once finished there we headed back to the studio where he ran me through his post-production workflow on two of my shots and then he printed one to 20cm x 40cm on his state-of-the-art large format printer. The morning was just over 2 hours, my photography has improved, and I have a print to prove it, but more than that I learned to use my camera more effectively. The cost of the photography tours are $200 and worth every cent. He normally takes up to two people per session, but on this occasion I was the sole participant.”
